Since I was using a different website provider when the last book in the Morus Chronicles released, I never posted anything about it here! Please forgive me 🙂

Identity is Essential

There is something strange about creating. And the writer identity is wrought with imposter syndrome. No matter if one sets aside a specific time daily or is “too busy” to create, producing on a consistent basis is challenging. Is it writer’s block? Lack of motivation? Depression? Kids who destroy quality sleep? I’m not sure. I’ve had two painfully slow years as a writer, so I started 2020 with something different. I stopped trying to force a project and rekindled the excitement of creating something. Anything! I went back to writing what I was excited about, finishing work, and submitting for publication. I now have five pieces of work on submission with plans for more for the first quarter of the year. Despite the guarantee of rejection, the opportunity of acceptance for publication has me more motivated than ever. I feel like a writer again. And to some degree, I feel like me again.

If you are struggling to write, try going back to the beginning. Forget about what you should be doing and focus on something you are excited to create. It might inspire you. It might help you establish daily self-discipline again. Most importantly, it might help you feel like your writerly self. You become exactly who you decide you are and taking action proves it to the most important person. You.

Nanowrimo is Almost Here

In less than two weeks, the fun begins! I’m still working on a major overhaul of a project that I queried back in 2017 but might have to put it on hold for the month of November. The joy of creating gets diminished after the first draft, and I need that writing joy in my life.

Nanowrimo is a great way to get inspired and motivated. I’ll be starting my sixth novel. If you’ve always wanted to write, you can find resources and tracking tools at https://nanowrimo.org.

Happy writing!

It’s July! Time for Camp Nano.

July started off with great productivity as Camp NanoWriMo is underway and I am slightly less busy during summer break. I am pushing to finish a major rewrite during the month which will mean the potential for exciting news and the start of a new series to be shared with readers. I hope this note finds you well and if you have read any of my work and enjoyed it, please leave a review on Amazon and/or Goodreads 🙂

Happy Independence Day!

J.R. Roper Project Update #1

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked “what are you working on?” during the last year. And I am so glad that fans and friends are genuinely interested. But every time I was asked, I felt a little embarrassed. The truth is, 2018 was not all that productive. I launched The Silver Spear in December of 2017 and felt exhausted. Since then, I haven’t had a consistent writing routine and the lack of structure has been difficult to deal with and overcome. Until now.

I have a lot in store for 2019! A new (untitled) project that I drafted in 2017 is undergoing some major changes and edits and I will have more to share as it progresses.

The Morus Chronicles are undergoing a relaunch. All ebooks should be available again soon.

And a short story collection titled Stories from the Fringe, featuring my published horror work, will launch this spring.

More details and updates to come! Until then, welcome back to Ye Olde J.R. Roper Website/Blog.

I’m back!

After exactly two years using another website/blog provider, I’m back! I simply like the features and layout better. I will be updating this site with new information and publications and will also be providing more content this year. Have a great day!

Thank you! And Website Updates

I’m so thankful for all of you who have supported me this year (and before). 2016 was a crazy year that ended with a newborn baby and the release of The Tower Below. I’m really looking forward to 2017 and have plans for a year of growth and productivity.

I will be moving my website to a new provider as I need more options to support my writing and publishing ventures. I’ll transfer as many of you as I can to the new site and will post here when it is complete so that you can find it easily. In the meantime, you can subscribe to my newsletter to ensure you are up to date on everything. Love you all! Thanks for being here.
